講座人介紹：

Dr. Derek Hird，蘭卡斯特大學(xué)語言與文化學(xué)院院長，中國語言與文化專家。他對加強STEM學(xué)科和語言的互動做了相關(guān)研究，創(chuàng)立了英國語言專家小組探討探討AR/VR在語言課堂上使用的相關(guān)問題。他所作研究的重點關(guān)注工程、計算機科學(xué)、游戲、心理學(xué)和其他人文科學(xué)學(xué)科合作，開發(fā)AR/VR資源，并突出科學(xué)與語言之間的聯(lián)系。

Dr. Timothy Douglas, 蘭卡斯特大學(xué)生物化學(xué)工程講師。他有許多國際合作經(jīng)驗，在科學(xué)工作中廣泛使用各種語言。自2021以來，他一直是國際多語種協(xié)會（HYPIA）的成員。他以英語為母語，能流利地講德語、荷蘭語、俄語、波蘭語，以及還會使用更多語言進行日常交流。他發(fā)表了100多篇文章，其中約50篇與波蘭合著者共同出版，20篇與俄羅斯合著者共同發(fā)表，15篇與捷克合著者共同發(fā)布。他的語言技能在建立和維持這些合作方面發(fā)揮了重要作用。他還擁有多年在STEM中運用語言技能的個人經(jīng)驗，并就這一主題進行了廣泛的演講。

講座內(nèi)容：

There is little discussion or promotion of the value of learning languages in STEM, despite the very international nature of STEM fields and their positive stance towards international collaboration and mobility. Similarly, there is relatively low interest in the languages sector in engagement with STEM subjects, despite the languages sector’s frequent claim that it is an inherently interdisciplinary field. With this in mind, a group of Lancaster University staff and students have launched an initiative to promote awareness of the benefits of bringing languages and science together. This talk will introduce our initiative in bringing languages and STEM together, and specifically we will discuss the rationale driving the "Languages in science and science in languages" project, key topics raised when languages and sciences are considered together, insights gained so far from the activities held, and plans for the future.
